SABIC launches three new copolymer resins designed for transportation and industrial fields

Recently, SABIC launched three new LNP™ CRX copolymer resins, which are specially designed for transportation and industrial fields. The product line of durable and chemically resistant PC copolymers is gradually growing

High resistance to harsh chemicals is a signature feature of the LNP CRX family of copolymer resins. As the product line continues to expand, they can withstand chemicals such as medical disinfectants, motorcycle gasoline, brake fluids, lotions, hand sanitizers and more. It has applications in medical, consumer electronics, and industrial fields. This series of amorphous copolymer resins have good chemical resistance and perform better than other amorphous resins.

It is worth mentioning that many of SABIC’s LNP CRX grades offer good injection molding and extrusion processing properties, as well as bromine-free/chlorine-free flame retardancy. Additionally, they can be used outdoors because they meet the ultraviolet (UV) and water immersion performance requirements of the UL 746C standard (F1 rating).The three new LNP™ ELCRES™ CRX grades feature low-temperature ductility (down to -60°C) and F1 ratings.

• LNP ELCRES CRX9416U copolymer resin: This material has passed UL Yellow Card certification and can provide designers with design freedom. As an injection molding grade material, it meets the UL94 V0 standard (1.5 mm) and is measured according to the Vicat B/120 (ISO 306) standard and can withstand high temperatures of 145°C.

• LNP ELCRES CRX9016E copolymer resin: This new grade is specially formulated for the extrusion molding process and is available in black. It has low shrinkage and long-term ductility and meets UL94 V0 standards (1.5mm). It also has a heat resistance of 145°C according to Vicat B/120 (ISO 306) standard.

• LNP ELCRES CRX7416U copolymer resin: This material allows for custom color matching, meets UL94 V0 standards (1.0 mm) and has excellent flowability (MVR of 13 g/10 minutes). According to Vicat B/120 (ISO 306) standard, its heat resistance is 131°C, which is slightly lower than the other two grades.

In addition, this series also provides bio-based version materials. According to SABIC, its bio-based version has the same performance as fossil-based grades while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 38%. This material is derived from renewable raw materials that are not fossil waste and does not compete in the food chain. It has passed the ISCC PLUS certification.

As far as we know, SABIC's sustainable development strategy, in addition to focusing on recycling, upgrading and the application of renewable components in thermoplastic materials, also focuses on materials with high durability to extend the service life of products.

According to Luc Govaerts, technical director of SABIC's Special Materials Department, initially, this series of copolymer resins were only targeted at scenarios where medical equipment is resistant to disinfectants. Since then, the product line has grown larger and larger, with new brands able to meet more different market needs, including new energy vehicle charging facilities, power batteries and electric bicycle batteries.
